The Bindi

The word BINDI comes from The Vedas - the Vedic Sanskrit term called BINDU.

The word Bindu dates back to the hymn of creation known as Nasadiya Sukta in Rig Veda.

Bindu is considered the point at which creation begins and may become unity. It is also described as "the sacred symbol of the cosmos in its unmanifested state"
- in contemporary astrophysics term - 'The Singularity'.

The area between the eyebrows (where the bindi or tilak is placed) is said to be the sixth chakra, ajna, the seat of "concealed wisdom". The bindi is said to retain energy and strengthen concentration. The bindi also represents the 'third eye'.

The Ajna is symbolised by a sacred lotus with two petals, and corresponds to the colours violet, indigo or deep blue, though it is traditionally described as white.

It is at this point that the two side nadi Ida (yoga) and Pingala are said to terminate and merge with the central channel Sushumna, signifying the end of duality, the characteristic of being dual (e.g. light and dark, or male and female).

The seed syllable for this chakra is the syllable OM, and the presiding deity is Ardhanarishvara, who is a half male, half female Shiva/Shakti. The Shakti goddess of Ajna is called Hakini.

In metaphysics, Bindu is considered the dot or point at which creation begins and may become unity.

Bindu is the point around which the mandala is created, representing the universe. Ajna (along with Bindu), is known as the third eye chakra which may inform a model of its envisioning.

Ajna's key issues involve balancing the higher and lower selves and trusting inner guidance. Ajna's inner aspect relates to the access of intuition. Mentally, Ajna deals with visual consciousness. Emotionally, Ajna deals with clarity on an intuitive level.

So wear a Bindi or a tilak and be happy :)

How to breathe - Pranayama: The door to self.

Mind is the door to ourselves. If we can master the mind, we enter into an immense possibility to master ourselves or know ourselves.

Now how to master the mind?

Mind very subtle, subtler than the air, subtler than the space. To master the mind, we need to master our breathing. To breathe with awareness.

Our breathe is an integral part of our life. It is the mind that connects our soul to our body, and breathing touches both mind and body. Mastering the breathing is mastering the mind.

Now how to master the breathing?

Make yourself comfortable in a comfortable sitting posture so that you can enjoy each moment of your sitting. Sit on a chair or a cushion if you feel good. If you cannot sit comfortably for a few minutes, you may lie down instead.

Whether you sit or stand, keep your head and neck in a straight line with your spine. Relax your shoulders completely. If you are lying down then relax your arms alongside your body or let them rest alongside your body at an angle that helps your shoulders to relax fully. You may put your arms on your belly if you wish.

If you want a pillow, use a wafer thin pillow that does not stress your neck muscles. Relax your jaw by opening your mouth widest possible 2-4 times taking deep breaths. Now close your eyes and take deep breaths allowing your facial muscles to relax completely. Keep a natural smile on your face - a smile without much efforts - natural smile. This smile will bring you back to your own source of love, joy and bliss within you.  Breathe and feel that the breathe carries that gentle smile to every pore of your body.

Slowly relax all your body parts, loosen your elbows and wrists, relax your fingers. If you are sitting, place one hand on the top of another with an interlock or any other way you are comfortable.

When you are totally relaxed, you continue to breathe naturally:

1. With inhalation (in-breath) you focus on ॐ the carrier taking away all your thoughts from your mind to the bottom of your belly, let your thought settle there.
2. With exhalation (out-breath) you relax your body and feel cleansed as all tensions and stresses in your body are released.

As you breathe in, quietly say to yourself 'I am at rest' while allowing ॐ to take away all your mental activities to your abdomen and make it rest there.
As you breathe out, quietly say to yourself 'I am relaxed' as your body relaxed and become as supple and soft as baby's.

Continue with this for a few mins until you experience a deep sense of peace, ease and joy.

Breathing meditation and a cup of tea

Meditation is not a tool to avoid hurdles or run away from life issues. It is rather meant to allow spiritual healing to take place. Meditation helps us to bring us from living in the past or the future into the present. Meditation helps us to enjoy our present moment and nourish us with the smell of fresh flowers, the warmth of sunshine and the taste of food. Most of us exist but do not live, most of us inhale and exhale but do not breathe. We need to learn how to breathe with awareness. This is a wonderful tool to make our mind to stop wandering. When we are able to do this then a divinely peaceful calm sets in. When that peaceful calm sets in, then one morning you may make some masala tea, and as you pick up the cup, you smell the tea more intensely. As you sip the tea, it tastes much more delicious. Yes it does just due to the reason that you have made your mind evolve with all its awareness to taste it directly and intensely.

Evolution

We evolve as humans, either through love or knowledge and if in a rare case both the things follow in life, then the process of evolution happens with a rapid pace...
